Tim Simmons
Intervention, Projected
8 — 11 July 2010
Following on from its 2009 outing at Suffolk’s Latitude Festival and The Business Design Centre, London in January 2010, UK based photographic artist Tim Simmons brought his large-scale project to Fermynwoods Contemporary Art at the unique setting of the Danish Shelters within Fermyn Woods.
This large-scale projection erected in the woods showed around forty images in a slide show format, running in half hour loops. The site itself formed an integral part of the work, re-embedding the photographs in the natural world that inspired them. Working with large-format cameras and artificial lighting to accentuate detail in the landscape, Simmons’ stunning images have a surreal, otherworldly quality, in the realms of fantasy and beyond obvious recognition.
Shown adjacent to the Danish Shelters the evening projection examined the multilayered relationship we have with our surroundings, and how subtle changes to our expectation of a place alter our perception of it.
Each fireside evening was preceded by an introduction by the Artist.
