Melanie Manchot and Kai Syng Tan discussed crossovers of art, running and the movement of bodies through urban and rural landscapes.

Melanie Manchot is a German artist currently based in London, whose work often explores specific sites and public spaces in order to locate notions of individual and collective identities.

Melanie shared extracts of her 2013 film Tracer, drawing attention to “how human agency may act upon built environments and questions the authority inherent to architectural form” through the actions of a group of parkour runners.

Kai Syng Tan is a cross-disciplinary artist-curator-educator-researcher-advisor who runs the RUN! RUN! RUN! International Body for Research, With Dr Alan Latham, which investigates and promotes running as a creative, social and intellectual toolkit. Kai has an interest in the city as site of exhibition and performance and runs “slowly with a funny gait”.

Kai shared a performance-lecture called ‘Life On The RUN! RUN! RUN!
