Inside Out
26 July — 9 September 2007
New work by four emerging artists, Charlotte Ashman, Anna Steiner, Mike Williams & Deon Winter. Each artist carefully selected an area within the two-acre grounds of the Water Tower gallery in order to create work for that particular place.
Deon Winter’s Comfort Zone, 2007 was a walk-in polyhedron that enabled visitors to be literally fully immersed within the work. The structures created imaginative light conditions, both natural & artificial, which illuminated the brash multi-coloured interiors.
In contrast Charlotte Ashman, a graduate from University College Northampton, used natural materials to weave a canopy of willow within the structure of trees. The canopies allowed a relationship between the light & shadows.
Mike Williams’ Brain Labyrinth was a designed grass maze, which had the appearance of random mark making. The maze created a mere shallow indent in the well-maintained lawn & ironically appeared slightly disconnected never fulfilling its purpose.
