Claudia Fährenkemper with Kingswood School

Summer 2009

As part of her residency with us, Claudia worked with over 20 KS3 students from The Kingswood School, Corby, on location at both Sudborough Green Lodge Cottages & in school.

After exploring Claudia’s practice, students gathered samples of insects & flora from Fermyn Woods & the SSSi wild flower meadow, before examining them under various microscopic conditions. Students then drew & painted a variety of insects in great detail onto acetate sheets, which could then be projected at much larger scales, consistent with Claudia’s treatment of scale in her own work.

Students also explored cyanotype photographic printing, using direct sunlight to produce images similar to Claudia’s ‘Aura’ series, which came out of her stay at Fermynwoods.

With Claudia’s assistance, students then put on an exhibition of their work in school.

“The nature & the style of the project very much suited what I hope is our ‘creative’ approach to education”
David Tristram, Headteacher, The Kingswood School
