ACTIVE INGREDIENT: A CONVERSATION BETWEEN TREES
Fineshade Woods, Northants, 2011
Irthlingborough Nursery and Infant School,
March 2011
As a prelude to their two-week residency in Fineshade Woods, Active Ingredient - an Interactive Artists Collective who merge Art and Science, worked with Irthlingborough Nursery and Infant School. The Artists worked with over 100 Year One pupils over two days to explore how invisible climatic data is measured and then presented visually.
By becoming ‘human sensors’ the young people detected different aspects of the environment in the woods and looked at how the invisible forces around them could be represented using shapes, symbols and colours, resulting in a variety of semi abstract felt maps.
The workshops were also a chance for pupils to explore Fineshade Woods and the concepts of ‘climate’ and ‘nature’ by bringing together Art, Science and ICT.
