Richard Woods
Stone Clad Cottages
18 October 2008 — 2 January 2009
Woods who is best known for his sculptures & installations which reactivate the social structures of urban & rural spaces undertook phase II of his project creating a temporary commission for the exterior of our residency venue, Sudborough Green Lodge. Woods clad the exterior of the building in a unique candy-coloured faux stone cladding makeover.
Woods has a long running history of architectural intervention & transformation, using all-encompassing installations of hand-printed wood-cut floors & elevations, presented in a variety of contexts & situations. Here Woods’s commission was a hyper-version of reality deposited like some alien object which clashed with the environment in which it was placed.
The humorous rendering of brick challenged the sense of decorum with which you may necessarily approach a work of art.
The project was supported by Arts Council England East Midlands & The Forestry Commission.
