Commissioned by Fermynwoods at Fermyn Woods Country Park this innovative installation is suspended within the central point from the branches of three alder trees standing adjacent to the Skylark café. The work entitled Audio Kinetic Solar Sculpture responds to changes in sunlight & to the daily cycle of the sun. Sound & movement are produced by the actions of plectrums positioned on circular disks, which are rotated over wire strings via low-voltage power generated from solar photocells in the tree canopy. The plectrums’ speeds vary according to the intensity of the sunlight, altering the sound; the piece literally orchestrates the shifts in light like a ‘solar Aeolian harp’.

The Installation is free to view 9.30 — 4.30 daily.

Andrew Stonyer will also be exhibiting a previous work Timepiece, at The Avenue Gallery, The University of Northampton 10 June — 2 July. The light sculpture responds to the patterns of time & forms part of The University’s School of the Arts Summer Staff Research Exhibition.
